What a brat!

I let Brent use my camera on Friday while we were at Bogus and he and Katie were skiing. Well he must have gotten board so he started looking through my pictures. I don't know what he was thinking but he got to my wedding dress so he has now seen it. It was several, several pictures back so he obviously looked through a lot before he got to it. I can't believe he did that. DORK! Good thing I love him.

The next event

The next event leading to Brent and I getting together isn't a joyful one but it was the next moment in our story.

Last year in May I went over to hang out at Stephanie's house, something that was a frequent occurrence and she told me some sad news she had receive. Brent's brother David and three of his daughters were in a horrible car accident that resulted in the death of everyone in the car except one daughter. Brent's sister-in-law, Emily, was at home at the time with their baby so those two were ok and the surviving daughter was in critical condition. I was heartbroken for this women I didn't know and wanted to do something. Since I didn't know her but did vaguely know Brent I decided to send him a sympathy card. Now I felt a little stupid about this action and didn't want anyone to think that I had ulterior motives so it took me a little while to actually go through with sending it. I actually brought two cards and sent the second one to a lady in my ward that lost her husband around the same time just to make myself feel like this was a common practice for myself. I also wrote my message out on a piece of paper trying to think of something that could possibly be of comfort, while not sounding like I had an ulterior motive, before I actually wrote the message on the card and mailed it. Stephanie told me that Brent had gotten a job out of the state so I looked the story up online to get his last name (yep, I didn't even remember his last name) and then used anywho.com to find his last Idaho address. There was no way I was going to ask anyone for his address and let my actions be known. I figured if I got the correct address the post office would forward it and if I didn't I at least tried.

What's Mine is mine or maybe DI's

I have been going through my apartment, cleaning packing etc. and I keep wondering how much of my stuff is actually going to make it back to Boise. I am assuming in the end I will show up on Karla's door step with a suit case or two, if I am lucky. But as I call and ask about this or that and if I should bring it home, the answer is generally, no. I think that the local Deseret Industries is going to receive most of my apartment. I really don't want to pay to bring something back home if we are not going to keep it. my couch and love seat are already gone. I have a bunch of furniture I made back in high school and college, it is quite fashionable if you have an old 70's style of water bed in the house, which I grew up with. Karla wants nothing to do with em. I also have some oak CD and DVD racks I made, and two beautiful Alder bookshelve/display shelves in my house in Emmett. All things I might of had a chance to keep if we had a bigger house but things I think will get gifted to family and friends. or DI. I have taken pictures of most stuff so Karla can reject them, I mean review them and I am thinking of putting some on here to see if any readers would want them. maybe I could actually find out how many people read this thing.

Love ya Karla, glad your decorating sense is better than mine.

The Things you say when dating

Brent came up this weekend but I had agreed to take some drivers to Sun Valley for work to earn some overtime so we spent half of our day together in the car. My brother Aaron and Brent have been discussing the lack of available gun ammunition recently since Obama took office. In my crazy love struck state that happens prior to marriage not only did the thought that he might have better luck finding ammunition in Sun Valley or some other small town area but I also suggested it out loud. We couldn't find an acceptable sporting goods store in Sun Valley but Brent did think of Mountain Home so we stopped on the way back to Boise and he is now the proud owner of some ammunition... and so will be my brother when I get around to dropping it off.

What am I thinking, how will I live up to such thoughtfulness after marriage when I am not starved for his attention since he will be around all the time. How will I ever counter act such a thought to ensure he feels me a mean and selfish wife that he will regret marrying? What is a girl to do, now he will think I am thoughtful and caring of his predilictions.

House Prospect

Crazy but Brent and I found a great deal on a house so on Friday I put an offer down on it. There is another offer on it and possible a 3rd so there is a chance we won't get it but we will keep our fingers crossed. It is located in the Devinshire subdivision and the address is Shelborne Dr so my address would just change by numbers.

RECOMMEND!

Brent got his recommend last night from the bishop and stake president. I am so excited!

Holy M&Ms Batman

I decided that Valentine's M&Ms would be a good wedding favor for the reception so this morning I started calling around to stores to find some. Well with the help of Meredith we cleaned out the local Walgreen stores. In all I believe there are 87 plain, 10 peanut and 10 Hershey kiss packages here. I think we will have more than enough to make wedding favors and sit out on tables at the wedding. Meredith - thanks you are incredible!

1st Valentine's

We weren't together for Valentine's Day but Brent still had flowers sent to me and he did a really great job with that if I do say so myself. I LOVE THEM!

PROGRESS

I received a phone call from my bishop this morning informing me that the stake president put my paperwork in the mail this morning to the First Presidency. So now I guess we just get to wait. So keep us in your prayers that the First Presidency gets to it quickly and are able to review it and approve it.

Next Meeting

Over time Stephanie would occasionally tell me some positive attributes of Brent's while we were visiting. Once she mentioned his ability to build things and how good he was at it. That tidbit stuck with me. Shortly before Christmas 07 I really wanted to put shelves up in Katie's room and get her room organized. Now my brother is a great builder but I felt guilty asking him to come over and spend time doing that for me. He is always so busy and lives about 30 minutes away with a total gas guzzler. So I called up Shandy and asked if I could get Brent's phone number hoping to get a quote from him to put shelves up. I honestly didn't think it could really cost that much. He agreed to come over and look at her room and give me a quote. Now I would be lying if I didn't say that part of me wondered if after spending time around him there might be a connection but mostly I really wanted the shelves. Well his quote was way too high for me. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a couple of shelves. I couldn't justify paying that much to Brent and not to my brother so in the end I never had him do the work.

On the funny side of this moment. After we did start dating Brent told me that he really thought it was something set up by John to get us together and I wasn't really that sincere about the shelves. While he was at my house I was impressed by the research he did prior to coming over to try meet what I told him I was looking for. I also remember thinking he was kind of cute when he showed up. My favorite moment of the night though was before he left he walked into my living room and made a comment about the decorating I had done. He mentioned how his sister-in-law was into that type of... did he call it crap or junk, maybe he just said stuff? I do remember looking at him and saying well it is this decorating (insert which ever word he had used) that makes a house a home. Boy was he smooth. So Brent left and I had an underlying thought that he just totally tried to over charge me and wondered if I appear to have a great deal more money than I really do have.

On a side note, I still don't have the shelves up. I also found out after we started dating that he was unemployed when he got my call and could have really used the money. So when he left that time I was more annoyed than anything by how much he quoted me and disappointed that I wasn't going to get any shelves.

And a Little Bit of Katie

Katie decided to look at the blog the other day and she was dismayed to realize that there is very little mention of her on it. I reminded her that the last time I mentioned her in the blog (cheetah reference) that she was very angry at me. While she stood firm in her belief that I should not have told the world about her cheetah reference she still expressed a desire to be mentioned in the blog so Katie here you go.

Katie has definitely learned the benefits of liking Brent. On Wednesday she asked me if we could go to The Pink Panther II on the upcoming Friday. I let her know that I thought it looked rather dumb and declined to go. Later she asked if Brent was going to pick her up from school on Friday when he was in town. I was surprised by this request but asked Brent his feelings on the subject and he quickly agreed, excited that she was interested in spending time with him. Thursday night she asked to talk to him while I was on the phone and now her planning is revealed. She promptly asked Brent if after picking her up from school he would take her to the movies while I was still at work. Brent of course agreed and Katie got to see the movie she was so excited about. It is amazing how quickly kids decide to work things in their favor. So know when asked if she likes Brent or how she feels about us getting married she enthusiastically exclaims she likes him and is happy to have him in our lives. Got to love her.

From the beginning

So I thought that I would write out how we got together, at least my side of the store for those of you that don't know the details. So here it goes...

A little over 3 years ago my good friend Stephanie told me that she wanted to set me up on a blind date with the a guy that was friend of John's. At the time I had never met John and Shandy and as often happens when people want to set you up on a blind date I didn't expect to actually ever meet the guy. Time went by, no date. Then around May of 06 Stephanie invited me out to a girls night out. I think in our almost 12 years of friendship that is the second time I can think of her proposing that event. Before the night was over though I realized that this was actually more of a chance for Shandy to scope me out and see if I was worthy of setting Brent up with. I apparently passed the test and a triple date with the man Stephanie claimed "was perfect for me" was set up.

The date consisted of dinner at Red Robin with John & Shandy, Stephanie & Kelly, and then Brent and I getting to met. Brent and I actually showed up at the restaurant before anyone else and I approached him figuring he must be the guy I was getting set up with. We had a fun dinner but afterward I chose to just say goodbye and go home. Before I even drove a mile away Stephanie called me and asked me my thoughts. I told her no love connection but I was willing to go on another date and get to know him better to see if there were anything there. She told me that Brent asked John for my number and wanted to know if it was ok to call which I said that was fine. Heck, I am always up for a free dinner.

Brent never called though which was ok with me. After all I wasn't head-over-heels for him. I was simply willing to give it a shot. So time passed. Occassionally I heard things about him through Stephanie but for the most part she had to remind me who Brent was when she brought his name up. Poor Brent though, it is my understanding that for the next 2.5 years John hounded him about not ever calling me.

The thing is, I think Brent and I both had a list of what we wanted in a spouse. Our perfect picture and we weren't really at a spot yet in our lives where we were willing to look past what we thought we wanted to see how great the person before us was. Also, a few months after that date I got the opportunity to return to school, something I am sure I never would have done if I had actually started dating anyone. For the most part I returned to school because I had decided that marriage wasn't going to happen for me and I needed to increase my ability to financially support myself and Katie. So I spent the next two years in school gaining my masters which I finally finished up last August. I truly believe that this was something that I was supposed to do, something that really built up my belief in myself and will be a value to me all my life and a good example to my daughter.

So that is how it began. I will fill in more details another night:) John, Shandy, Stephanie, & Brent - feel free to fill in the details I was unaware of or how you saw it from your perspective regarding this phase of the Brent/Karla connection!
