Dating Hangover

I totally have a dating hangover today. For those of you that are wondering what that is, well it is the dull ache in your head that comes from lack of sleep over a prolonged period of time. I can't believe how little sleep Brent can run on.

Well the meeting of the parents went well. My dad was impressed with Brent sighting his firm handshake, direct eye contact and warm smile as good qualities. I think he won Joyce over the moment he smiled and said hello. Dad and Brent ended up in the Prius for a few minutes while my dad gushed over one of his current fascination and Brent listened and asked more questions. Joyce and I stood out side and laughed at them the whole time.

The funnest moment of last night as Brent meet my family... When we showed up at the church Brent went immediately to the men's room and when my brother Aaron saw me by myself he loudly asked me where my "boyfriend was" just as Brent walked in and responded "right here." I am not sure who turned the darkest shade of red at that moment but those of us watching sure got a good laugh over it.

All in all things are going great. These past few days are the longest we have been around each other with our obvious hurdle of living so far apart and it was so much fun. He makes me laugh and I know he at least likes to laugh at all my blonde moments.

Competition for Jill?

I know this is not B&K related but I couldn't help but post this pic from last night. Since Bill has dropped the lbs, the ladies find him quite appealing. Jill, I wouldn't let him out of your sight!

Time for an update

Yeah, I have no great title for this one, too many different topics. Like I said I had a lot of fun with Brent's family. We have a few more hours before he meets some of mine and I sure hope they are as friendly as the Coburn's have been too me. While I have no doubt that Marlo and Aaron will love him my dad,who hasn't met him seems to be worried about the facial hair. Don't worry Brent, you will win him over because you are so wonderful. I of course really like the facial hair and if I have a say he isn't allowed to shave it off.

Yesterday morning I participated in Black Friday, my favorite day of the year. No Brent wasn't even invited to join me. I couldn't have him ruining my fun. On Thursday night I forgot I had driven over to Brent's house prior to heading to Hal's so when he dropped me off I thought someone had stole my car. Once Brent stopped laughing at me and reminded me where it was I calmed down. I was too tired to get my car that night so I picked it up after my shopping yesterday. So the point of my story - When I picked it up my windows were all scrapped, boy did that ever make a great impression on me. He has to be the most thoughtful guy I have ever dated. I think I will have to keep him around.

We both went to the BSU football game last night. He sat in the south end zone with Johnny and Bill and I sat on the 50 yard line upper deck. That was fun, from there I could see everything. I would watch the game and sneak a peak at the SEZ to see my cutie. I actually saw them do a lot of things I thought was pretty funny. Aren't the boys cute.

This morning I joined the Coburns for their famous "oatmeal pancakes," something I not only heard a lot about prior to the experience but was also instructed on the proper way to eat them. I actually really liked them and of course had really fun with everyone sitting around the table. I do wish I had thought to bring a bottle of whip cream and some strawberries just to tease them since it is apparently a mortal sin to deviate from the proper way to eat them. My favorite part of the morning was when I grabbed Brent's leg and he got embarrassed and turned bright red. LOVE THAT!

Well I am driving Brent crazy right now so I better get off this blog... I also better remember to log off so he won't log back on as me again and say wonderful things about himself under my username.

Thanksgiving with the Coburns

Brent made it into town today so meeting the family quickly got on the way. I showed up at his mom's house shortly before 11AM. It went pretty well even though Brent didn't even tell his mom that I was coming over... DORK! Brent's mom covered not knowing I was coming with a very enthusiastic hug before I even got through the door.

Anyway, we drove up to his brother's house for a great Thanksgiving meal and I met some of the family. Meeting all the family might take me a life time considering there are so many of them:) Great meal, lots of fun and they all seemed pretty great. Poor Brent has to meet my dad and one of my brothers on Saturday, hehehe.

I guess at least we have one hurtle over with and they seemed to like me. They definitely enjoyed taking pictures of us, many of which were staged by them. As always I assume the main comment will be they are just so glad to find out that Brent is in fact not gay.

The answer to the poll

Brent sent me a text a little while ago and he is on his way home for Thanksgiving! So say a little prayer that he will make it home safe since it is such a late drive and he has been working all day. Of course this means that he has to meet my dad and one of my brothers this weekend.

In Defense of Boise State

Boise State does not take up that much of the year.

The regular season runs September through the end of November, sometimes the very beginning of December. We get 6-7 home games a year depending on whether or not we play Hawaii at Hawaii. We usually travel to one to two away games a year. December is spent preparing for our Bowl game which takes place in late December or early January. We usually revel in or comiserate our bowl performance into late January. Letter of Intent week occurs in February when all of the High School Seniors sign up to join the team. February contains the NFL combine where our Broncos who have finished up college ball perform at an NFL camp in front of all of the scouts and coaches in order to increase their stock in the NFL draft. In February we also have Pro-Day when our players who didn't get invited to the combine perform drills and other feats of strength in front of NFL scouts and coaches. Spring ball runs from March through April with two scrimmages and culminates in the Blue and Orange Game. The NFL Draft also occurs in April. May through July is usually pretty quiet and drives us crazy. We grow rabid in our anticipation of teh upcoming season. By July, we are rehashing the same conversations, predictions, scenarios and arguments that we've talked about dozens of times before. During this time we scheme on which away games we will go to and also discuss buying a 1970's conversion van for tailgating but we never do get it. August starts Fall Ball with three scrimmages and finally we kick off the season again in September. The fall is teh best time of the year for us and we start getting a spring to our step in late summer.

So as you can see, it doesn't take up that much of our time.

New Poll on the right and a thought

There's a new poll on the right for everyone's voting pleasure.

Also, a thought...

The Stueckle Sky Club would be a great place to have a reception.

Just saying...

Shandy & John - this one is for you

So today after getting a frustrated text from Brent about work and how bad it was going I try to send him back messages of encouragement knowing he wants to come home for Thanksgiving and that work problems are making this difficult. Finally I let him know that if he didn't make it home I understood and know he really did try. Do you know what his reply was... He said he knew he would see me but he doesn't want to miss the game. For a moment there I guess I forgot that his first love is BSU football and not me. He did let me know I was a close second and when the season was over I could move up to first. If he was here I might have had to beaned him upside the head with something for that comment. When you combine spring season with the regular season I think BSU football gets more months of the year than me. hehehe

My .02

I think compatability is less about being exactly the same and more about being supportive of each other. Shandy and I have very different habits and pastimes. I don't scrapbook and she isn't a football fanatic. However, I'm happy that she enjoys scrapbooking and photography and I like looking at what she has created. Likewise, she supports my juvenile obsession with Boise State and shares me with my idiot friends.
It is, however, important to have something you both like to do. Shandy and I have certain TV shows that we like to watch together. We read the same books, sometimes. We try to have date night as often as possible and sometimes that means we have to just have an at-home date.
As a couple, it's healthy to have away time with your friends. For us, it's having a girl's night out once or twice a month, and my football games. On the other hand, we have known some couples that are always away from each other, doing their own thing, and I don't think that's too healthy.
It's all about supporting each other, loving each other for your quirks, and enjoying the differences that you have. Variety is the spice of life.

How compatible must you be?

This will go to show you the power of long distance dating. Since Brent and I seem to date primarily via the phone we have discovered the power of getting to know each other through long hours of conversation every night on the phone. Amazingly this has actually increased our ability to get to know each other since we aren't face to face and must actually communicate.

So the point of this post... how compatible must to people actually be? During Saturdays conversation I came to the realization that Brent actually does pay attention to not only the things I say but the things he sees when he is with me. He mentioned that he noticed my bed is always made when he has been over and wanted to know if that was just because I knew I would have guest (my room can be seen from the living room) or if that was a habit of mine. The truth is I love a well made bed and do make my bed every morning. It turns out that Brent never makes his bed and likes to sleep with the sheets tucked under his feet. Don't worry parents... this information comes from conversation not first hand knowledge, everything is on the up and up here.

Now for those of you that don't know my story I was married for 3 years in my early 20s and have been divorced now for 10 years. My first husband and I weren't compatible at all but I still don't think that a couple has to be completely compatible. Rather I feel that you need to have the same goals and both be centered on the gospel. In other words, I don't think the bed thing is a make or break issue personally but I will leave that up to you married people to comment on.

Too sick for words

You might notices as you read my post today that things might be out of order but you need to understand that I woke up Friday morning around 3AM sicker than I have been in years. While Brent often works as early as 3AM this morning he didn't have to work until 5AM so I waited as I moaned in pain for 4:45AM to roll around so I could text him to try and elicit some sympathy for my sad condition.

Brent did rise to the occasion as well as anyone could from 8 hours away texting and calling me throughout the day. I have to admit when I am not feeling well I often don't think so clearly so his simple suggestions of way to make me feel better were really useful. They might sound simple but the idea to take some Ibuprofen for my fever made a world of difference to help me rest.

I even hit a point in all the yuck where I thought "what the heck am I thinking wanting more children and being willing to inflict morning sickness on myself again." It only last for 24 hours though and I feel pretty good now and I have to admit that I would probably struggle through morning sickness again to have another child, especially if I had a kind husband by my side this time. I guess only time will tell what the Lord holds in store for me in this arena and Brent would be that kind husband. I guess my advice to you all would be to stay tuned to see where this leads us both.

Truth... I don't think so

So our conversation today discussed what a good wife should be in the eyes of Brent Coburn. While I believe that most of Brent's opinions on this subject are utter bunk I guess I will leave that to those of you that know him well to inform me of the validity of these opinions for Brent informed me that it was the job of the hardworking man to come home and sit on the couch and watch TV and eat while the good wife should take care of the house and children. Now anyone that knows me knows this isn't going to be the case if married to me. I am just not into be the maid for my household. While I love to take care of those I love I am not that obedient. I made sure to let Mr. Coburn know that if he is really looking for that he needs to stop calling me.

Now as to not freak any of you concerned citizen out I am pretty sure this was all Brent's idea of a funny. Needless to say he knows where I stand on the subject and we are still even at this moment on the phone together.

I wonder sometimes if he tells me things about himself just to see if I am still going to be interested or not so he can at least minimize the damage that could be done to his heart should he tell me something that is a deal breaker for me. I have to say though, so far I haven't found out anything about the elusive Mr. Coburn that would make me want to stop dating him. In fact I find myself liking him more and more each day. I guess for now he is just stuck with me and the constant text and phone calls that go along with this long distant relationship. I am completely infatuated with Brent and can't wait to see him again... he just thinks he is funny with those silly comments of his.

off to get Karla!

Doesn't he look like a happy man??
Well, he should! He was just walking out the door to pick up Karla & Katie from the airport and I had to get a pic (for the sake of the blog, ya know...).
I have to say that I was quite impressed that he didn't sport the BSU gear (even tho it was a game day) to look extra spiffy for his girl :)
You got you a cute one, Karla!
ps: the first one he did his signature "no smile" photo... and I was like "SMILE!".... looks much better with him being happy :) don't you think?

Forgot

I was half asleep through most of our conversation last night so I really don't have any dish for any of you but I did forget to tell you yesterday about the emails I received from both my dad and step mom. Tuesday morning I received emails from both telling me that they would like to have Brent over for dinner and to see where they live in South Jordan. I thought this was kind of funny. I let Brent know and told them that he could decide what he wanted to do but assured them that they would meet him soon.
Brent didn't go to work today in honor of a sick day so we actually talked a few times off and on throughout the day. It was fun to talk while we were both wide awake for a change. I told Brent why I decided to send the second card to him that you guys know about. At the time I had no idea why I felt I should send that card but today I can honestly say I am so glad I did:)

Well Karla was invited but she refused to call in sick like I did. But today I spent the day with my brother Kevin and his friend and we spent the day running firing drills, completely awesome. I was so underdressed for the day I guess I better buy a tac vest, but the guy in the middle runs a gun blog and so now I and Boise State will be more than famous we will be international superstars. It is 10 pm and I have not called Karla. so i am out.
